In 1965, younger brothers Marlon and Michael joined the group. Almost immediately after their addition it became clear that Michael, already showing talent as a singer and dancer, was fast becoming their main attraction. Michael replaced Jermaine as lead vocalist by mid-1967. Shirley Cartman, Tito's junior high orchestra teacher, noticed the group's talents and served as an early mentor to the group, by then they called themselves The Jackson Five a name given to them by a lady in their neighborhood.
