John Zorn

John Zorn was born in New York City and, as a child, played piano, guitar and flute[7] and absorbed the musical influences from his parents and siblings which included classical music, world music, jazz, chansons, doo-wop, and rock and roll[8]. He picked up the saxophone after discovering Anthony Braxton's album For Alto[9] while attending Webster College (now Webster University) in St. Louis, Missouri, where he studied under Oliver Lake[10]. While still at Webster, Zorn incorporated elements of free jazz, avant-garde and experimental music, film scores, performance art and the cartoon scores of Carl Stalling into his first recordings[11].
